Walsall Housing Group (WHG) is one of the largest providers of social housing in the West Midlands. Owning and managing around 19,000 properties across Walsall. WHG provides affordable, good quality homes and community-based services to the local community; they provide housing for almost 40,000 people, which is around one fifth of the borough’s population.
WHG works closely with residents and communities and strive to put our customers first in all of our work. That has meant listening to what they have to say and changing the way they do things to meet their needs. In its 10 year corporate plan WHG has a commitment to establish and support local social enterprises in the Black Country, as well as supporting and helping people in employment.
REPC uses its services to support charities and community programmes and provides education, training and employment opportunities for disadvantaged young people and adults.
This philosophy and working practices was one of the reasons why WHG selected REPC as a partner in 2012 to re-furbish and re-use WHG’s I.T equipment and office furniture, to furnish a new training centre in Lichfield. The Fishing Project uses the centre for I.T training with disaffected young people to re-engage them in education. The success of this partnership and project led to further collaboration including the Rough Hay Community Centre Digital Hub.
